Sicily - The Golden Southeast
More Than a Cycling Tour
Six Days Between the Baroque Southeast and the Iblei Hills
Most people fly to Sicily and never leave the crowds. We go the other way, into the quiet southeast corner where the roads empty out, every town is carved from honey-colored stone, and the best chocolate in Italy is still made cold and grainy the way it was five hundred years ago. This is the Sicily of tuna villages and Baroque piazzas, of granita at breakfast and Nero d'Avola from the vineyard down the road. You do not see it from a bus. You see it from the saddle, at the speed it was built for.
The route runs 300 km over six days, Catania to Catania, tracing the coast at Marzamemi up through Noto, Scicli, Modica and Ragusa, then climbing into the high Iblei to a fifteenth-century castle. Mornings are for the bike, when the light is low and the roads are yours. Afternoons are for long lunches, cold wine and walking the golden towns. The support van is always behind you with your bags, spare wheels and water, so all you carry is your legs. Short days on the bike, long lunches. That is the whole idea.
Six Days AROUND The Golden Southeast

DAY 1
Arrival on the Southeast Coast
You land in Catania and we drive you south, past the salt pans and the low stone walls, to Marzamemi, an old tuna-fishing village where the streets run straight down to the sea. There is time to build the bikes, spin the legs along the flat coast road, and watch the light turn orange over the little harbor. Dinner is the first long table of the week: Pachino tomatoes, fresh fish, a glass of Nero d'Avola from the vineyards just up the road. Nothing hard today. Sicily starts slowly.
DAY 2
Marzamemi to Noto, the Baroque Capital
We roll out along the coast, then turn inland and climb gently through almond and olive country toward Noto, the golden capital of Sicilian Baroque. Leave the bikes and walk up Corso Vittorio Emanuele, where the whole town is cut from limestone that glows at midday. Lunch is long and shaded, then an easy afternoon leg toward the foot of the Iblei. Around 55 km, one real climb, and a granita with brioche waiting at the top.

DAY 3
Scicli, Modica Chocolate, Down to Ragusa
A big Baroque day. We ride to Scicli and its theatrical Via Mormino Penna, then on to Modica, a town split across a deep gorge, where the chocolate is still made cold and grainy the old Aztec way. Yes, you get to taste it, and yes, you earn it, because the road out of Modica's gorge is the sharpest climb of the trip. We finish by rolling into Ragusa Ibla as the stone stairways catch the last light. Long day, longer dinner.
DAY 4
Palazzolo Acreide and the Olive-Grove Roads
The quietest riding of the week, up on the Iblei plateau among dry-stone walls, carob trees and roads with no cars on them. We stop at Palazzolo Acreide, the ancient Greek Akrai, and its little theatre cut straight into the hillside. Lunch is in a town lost among the olive groves, the kind with one piazza and a very good bakery. Around 60 km of rolling limestone, honey light and the smell of wild thyme.

DAY 5
Into the Iblei, the Castle at Vizzini
Our last full day climbs steadily into the high Iblei toward Vizzini, on the slopes of Monte Lauro, the roof of the range. The reward at the top is a fifteenth-century fortified castle standing alone in open countryside, where we spend the final night. We park the bikes early, pour the local Cerasuolo di Vittoria, and toast a week well ridden. This is the day you will talk about when you get home.
DAY 6
Departure
Breakfast in no hurry, a last espresso in the castle courtyard, and a transfer back to Catania Airport whenever your flight leaves. Bags are handled, bikes are packed, nothing to organize. You go home with brown legs and a phone full of golden towns.

The Man Behind the Roads
Rodolfo Massi won a stage at the Tour de France in the Pyrenees. He won a stage at the Giro d'Italia. He wore the King of the Mountains jersey - the polka dots - through the same cols you'll ride on this trip.
He's not a tour operator who studied a map. He's a former professional who spent his career on these exact roads. He knows where the gradient kicks, where the wind hits, where to stop for the view that nobody else knows about. And he knows something most guides don't: how to make a climb feel like a gift instead of a punishment.
Today, Rodolfo takes a handful of people each year through the mountains that shaped his life. Not to race. Not to suffer. To feel what it's like to ride roads that were built for something extraordinary - with someone who lived it.

Worried You're Not Fast Enough?
Read This

Every single person who books this trip asks some version of the same question:
"Can I actually do this?"
Yes. Here's why.
This is not a race. There is no pace to hold and no group to keep up with. Rodolfo has guided riders of every level through these cols - from people who train five days a week to people who ride on weekends when the weather is nice.
The support van follows the group every day. If you hit a wall, you can still enjoy the view in the van without judgment. If you want an e-bike for the bigger days, several guests choose exactly that every trip.
The only thing that matters is that you enjoy riding. If you're worried about being a burden, that worry itself is proof that you're the kind of person this trip was made for: someone who cares about the experience and the people around them.
